DOES ANYONE HAVE ADVICE ON GADGETS THAT MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO PEEL CHOP AND SLICE FRESH VEGETABLES?

I survive on ready meals, mainly good ones from M&S, so they are lovely, but I would far rather be able to prepare

my own meals too.

I am a vegetarian of many years standing although I added in fish a few years ago.

Any gadget advice much appreciated. (I am not too keen on pre-prepared vegetables.)

Best wishes,

Hiya Fiona ,
No recommendation apart from the potato peeler on here but here is a site selling all sorts of devices ... some at a premium though :(.
I could also not get by without my stick blender for soups :)

...and Mandolins always scare the hell out of me :( or is that mandarins ;)

I have my trusty food processor which has actually reached quite a venerable age now, but I wouldn`t be without it. It`s a Kenwood, but not an expensive one. I have a mini-chopper too, from Lakeland.

PS I got an ergonomic veg knife with a handle you put your hand into, from our local Disability place. It`s wickedly sharp, though, and I hate using it.

I have one - my wonderful wife - she has so many extra abilities too! Blushing

Does anyone else have a problem with ring pull cans - soups, tinned fruit etc? I have to use the middle bit of my finger or it's too painful, and then it gets stuck! Sad

hi Paul,

hmmm wondering exactly what you mean about your lovely wife .. lol Blushing i am sure you are looked after well

i can't pull ring cans, open tins, even getting the seal of yoghurt pots can be tricky for me, as i'm left left handed and my worst joint is in my left wrist.

i can't chop certain vegs, especially bunch of celery that is a definate No No.

then my Hubby come's in handy :)

Thank you for all the suggestions and please keep them coming.

I think that apart from washing my hair, (it's long), food preparation is a nightmare

if you have weak wrists and sore hand joints.

How much can a food Processor achieve in the peeling and chopping department please?

Rich, I liked the website you gave the link to as well.

Best wishes,

FionaSmile

Hi Fiona,

A food processor can chop, though I`ve never tried peeling on it. There are different attachments for chopping, slicing etc. I use mine to make pastry as well, and no-one`s complained yet!! I use the little one if it`s only one onion, to be chopped, or one something else. There`s a grater attachment too on the food processor.

I do have a lovely husband to open cans, tubs of yoghurt etc.!

Love, Kathleen x

Hi People
I too have a problem with ring pulls on tins but I have a plastic gadget like a lever with a hook that slips under the ring and pulls the lid back as you push on the other end Its made by culinaire and I think I got it from Lakeland Definitely one for every kitchen

Brilliant - I went on Amazon and there was a double bubble offer - the ring pull gadget and also one for bottles and jars. I have ordered them. Thanks Julie.

Sorry if we have gone a little off the original topic. Smile
